How to Mint NFT Art on Craft marketplace: A Step-By-Step Guide

steps for minting an NFT Art on Craft marketplace

Craft is a community-owned NFT art marketplace that runs on the ICON blockchain. It’s like ICON’s version of Looksrare or OpenSea. A Craft user can mint, buy, and sell NFTs for minimal fees, earning $CFT in return – the Craft ecosystem’s governance and utility token. The purpose of this article is to teach you how to mint an NFT and list it for sale on Craft.

Connect an ICON Wallet

In order to use Craft, you’ll need to connect an ICON wallet first. Upon clicking on “Connect Wallet” in the top right corner of the Craft interface, you will be presented with three wallet options – ICONex/Hana, Ledger, and Bridge.

It is most convenient (no hardware wallet needed) and secure (non-custodial) for most users to use the ICONex/Hana option. Check out our guide on how to set up a Hana wallet if you don’t already have one.

Craft supports the Ledger hardware wallet line for advanced users who prefer hardware wallets. For users who don’t want to manage their own private keys, Craft also offers an email-based passwordless authentication login option known as Bridge.

How to Create Your NFT Art for the Marketplace

Craft supports a wide range of content file formats, including GIF, JPEG, JPG, MP3, MP4, PNG, and WEBP. That’s right! Craft also supports audio (MP3) and video (MP4) files in addition to static images.

This tutorial, however, will focus on minting NFTs by using static images for nft art marketplace. Optimize an image before uploading it to Craft to mint an NFT to ensure it doesn’t take up more space than necessary.

Choosing a file format that suits your image is the best way to optimize it. If your art is primarily composed of computer-generated vector graphics with a limited color palette, PNG is a better choice than JPG.

However, JPG is usually better at maintaining reasonable file sizes when uploading photos captured by a camera. Despite being technically superior to both JPG and PNG, WEBP hasn’t gained much traction as a file format for sharing images. Consequently, we recommend using PNGs or JPGs whenever possible.

You can also optimize the image by scaling it appropriately. You should select a resolution that adequately displays all the details in your art when using NFTs. It is usually sufficient to have between 2,000 and 4,000 pixels on the long side of the image. Be sure to downscale the final NFT image if your source file is larger than 4,000 pixels wide.

Last but not least, you should run your image through an image optimizer to reduce its file size. As NFT images are usually encoded into Base64 and uploaded to IPFS, minimizing storage space can speed up future downloads.

This is especially important for PNG files which are lossless by design. A desktop app like ImageOptim or an online service like TinyPNG can help you optimize images.

List for Sale

This option allows you to list NFTs (priced in ICX) on the Craft marketplace. Craft plans to support other cryptocurrencies such as bnUSD and CFT for marketplace transactions in the future. We’ve set a price of 100 ICX for our listing.

Advanced Options

In this section, you can create a custom collection for the NFT, set the royalty percentage, specify the mint quantity, provide custom attributes, and mint additional counterparts.

The collection we selected for our listing is “Craft Default”. As a result, the NFT will be housed in Craft’s default collection rather than its own unique collection. Minting NFTs that share a common theme (such as Studio Mirai’s Tamashi or Frāmd’s Yeti Strong Club) requires you to create an individual collection or even by creating your own contract which can then be integrated with Craft.

As nft secondary market sales occur, the original creator (you) earns recurring revenue from the royalty percentage. For your first mint, we recommend sticking to a royalty percentage between 10-15%, which is standard in the NFT market. Generally, higher royalty percentages reduce secondary sales, while super-low royalty percentages encourage wash trading.

With the “number of copies” setting, you can enforce the scarcity of the NFT. The scarcity of NFTs can be verified on-chain since they are unique non-fungible digital tokens. It is common for NFT creators to create only one copy of each NFT to ensure its uniqueness.

However, there are some situations when it makes sense to increase the mint quantity. If you plan to use Craft NFTs as passes to access a merch drop, you may want to set the quantity to match the number of physical items you own.

The “custom attributes” section enables you to specify additional attributes that will be embedded in the NFT’s metadata. Rarity characteristics can be described using attributes. It is possible for a PFP (profile picture) collection to contain attributes such as hair color, eye color, body type, and glasses, for example.

To complete the minting process, click the “Craft” button at the bottom of the page after double-checking your settings. You’ll then be asked to upload your image to IPFS, which is a decentralized storage service.

Summary

The process of minting an NFT on Craft is very easy and takes only a few minutes. In comparison to Ethereum NFT marketplaces, ICON’s Craft marketplace offers users a much more affordable minting experience ($50-100 on Ethereum versus $0.01 on ICON).

The low barrier to entry makes Craft the perfect place to mint your first NFT if you’re even a little interested. Be sure to join the official Craft Discord and start a discussion if you have any questions about Craft!
