A crypto wallet provides you with access to your cryptocurrencies and tokens as well as serves as your on-chain identity. With an ICON wallet, you can hold assets such as ICX, IRC tokens, and NFTs, and also interact with dApps such as Balanced, Omm, and Craft. The ICON blockchain is compatible with a number of wallets, including Hana, ICONex, MyIconWallet, and WalletX. Here we will walk you through the process of setting up an ICON wallet using Hana, the most popular wallet in the ICON ecosystem.
How to Download Hana Wallet
The Hana wallet is a Chrome extension that works on all desktop platforms (MacOS, Windows, and Linux) using Google Chrome. You can download Hana by visiting the official Hana listing on Chrome’s web store and clicking “Add to Chrome”.
The Hana logo should appear in your menu bar after installing the Chrome extension. In case you don’t see it, click on the icon of the extension, and then on the pin icon.
How to Create a New Wallet in Hana
You can create a new wallet by clicking on the Hana extension and selecting “Create new account”.
The next step is to specify a password for your Hana wallet. Make sure you choose a secure password with alphanumeric characters and symbols to protect all your assets. A strong password generator like this one is recommended if you’re unsure whether your password is secure.

Following the creation of your password, you’ll be asked to back up your 12-word seed phrase – a set of words that can be used to restore your wallet cryptographically in the future. Never share your seed phrase with anyone, and never proceed to the next step without backing up your seed phrase. Don’t store your seed phrase in your email inbox or a cloud storage service such as Dropbox or Google Drive. Instead, use offline storage by writing down your seed phrase on paper or using a dedicated backup product, such as Privacy Pros’ Billfodl.
The next step is to confirm your seed phrase. Click the back button to view your seed phrase again if you did not back up your seed phrase following the instructions above.
You will be prompted by Hana to select which chains you would like to interact with after confirming your seed phrase. Hana is a multi-chain wallet that supports a variety of blockchains beyond ICON, such as Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Polkadot, and Moonbeam. We are only going to set up an ICON wallet for the purposes of this article, so just pick ICON for now.
After clicking through the remaining prompts, you’ll be greeted with your new Hana wallet.
A Quick Overview of Hana

At the top of the wallet interface, there is a blue header menu bar with a hamburger menu icon. When you click on the menu icon, you will see the “My wallets” side menu, where you can select the wallet you want to interact with. The “My wallets” menu also allows you to switch from mainnet to testnet, add a new ICON wallet, and lock it.
Hana Footer Menu Bar
The footer menu bar is split into five sections designated with icons – home, trade, earn, transactions, and settings.
- In the “Home” section, you can view the value of your portfolio in USD, along with a list of your crypto assets and tokens. Hana will also display NFTs held in your wallet in the future.
- In the “Trade” section, you can send and receive crypto assets.
- ICX can be staked and delegated to validators through the “Earn” section.
- Your wallet’s transaction history is displayed in the “Transactions” section.
- In Hana, you can change various settings in the “Settings” section.
How to Find Your ICX Address (Public Key) in Hana
You will need to provide your ICX address or public key to the sender to receive funds. By clicking on the name of your wallet (“Wallet 1” in the screenshot below), you can find your ICX address. Your ICX address (starts with “hx”) can be found in the pop-up modal.
How to Send ICX and IRC-20 Tokens With Hana
ICX and IRC-20 tokens can be sent quickly and easily with Hana. Start by clicking “Send” in the “Trade” section of the footer menu bar.
To send an asset, click on it. ICX and IRC-20 tokens (BALN, OMM, CFT, etc.) are supported by Hana. This screenshot shows 10 ICX and 50 CFT.
Next, you’ll be prompted to specify a destination ICX address for the transaction.
Next, specify the amount of the asset you’d like to send.
After reviewing the transaction details, click “Send” to send the transaction.
How to Switch to Testnet in Hana
Hana also supports several ICON testnets, including Sejong, Lisbon, Berlin, and BTP. Click the main menu icon and select “My wallets” from the dropdown menu to switch to the testnet.
Click “Show more” in the ICON section, and select the desired testnet.
How to Use Hana With a Ledger Wallet
It is well known that the Ledger Nano line of hardware wallets is extremely popular among ICX holders. The built-in Ledger wallet support in Hana makes it super easy to use your hardware wallet to send ICX transactions and use ICON dApps.
The Ledger wallet can be added to Hana by clicking the hamburger icon in the top right corner, clicking “Add a wallet”, and selecting “Restore a wallet”.
Next, select the “Connect with your Ledger” option.
One thing you may not know about Ledger wallets is that they support multiple accounts. In order to import a wallet into Hana, you’ll need to select a Ledger account. It is recommended that you stick with the first account on the first page. Later on, you can always add another wallet to your Ledger if you need additional wallets linked to another account.
Your new Ledger account will appear under “My wallets” after importing the wallet.
Summary
The Hana wallet has everything you need to get started with ICON, from sending transactions to staking and delegating ICX. Check out the Hana docs or start a discussion on the official ICON Discord if you have any questions about Hana.
