Update on the technical community of ICON for July 2022

On a quarterly basis, ICON will publish “ICON Technical Community Reports” to support the growing technical community on ICON. These reports provide an overview of ICON’s goals, milestones, and timelines for a given period of time to its technical community. The purpose of this first update is to summarize milestones and goals for August 1 through September 30. Let’s dive in!

Focus

As part of this initiative, They will work closely with the community to improve communication between the ICON Foundation and the community on a variety of topics, such as open-source development, grant sources, and community participation strategies.

Goals (Aug 1 to Sept 31)

Establish “ICON Builder Program”

They are working on establishing an ICON Builder Program that targets the following areas:

  • Icon ecosystem businesses, developers, builders, and users can better collaborate and connect.
  • The CPS, ICON Foundation grants, and ICE Developer grants facilitate funding for projects.
  • Using Bug Bounty Programs and Request for Proposals to raise awareness for key target contributions.

Create a “Technical Tutorials” Section on the icon.community

On the icon.community website, They are working on adding a technical tutorial section. There will be tutorials on technical topics such as dApp development, using ICON SDKs, and setting up infrastructure in this section.

Their goal is to build a technical guide archive similar to Ethereum’s developer content collection. We will accept submissions from the community.

Reorganize Blockchain Transmission Protocol (BTP) Specification

In order to make BTP more useful for developers, content creators, and users, They are creating well-defined, comprehensive specifications for its components.

Increase Community Contribution

ICON benefits greatly from regular contributions since it is an open-source project. Their team is working on strategies to increase the number of content creators, community developers, and builders.

Currently, they are also seeking a contributor to create a CPS proposal for a website similar to the Cardano Development Update Tracker.

Organize State of Contributions to ICON

For tracking the state of the ICON project, they have launched a new repository on GitHub. They plan to populate this repository with information about collaboration structure, guidelines, code conformance standards, and possible working group structures over the next few weeks.

Organize Public Resources for ICON Grant Programs

Their grant program resources are now available on GitHub via a new repository they launched recently. This repository will provide information about grant program processes, including proposal templates and guidelines for how the grant system works.

Conclusion

In the coming months, we look forward to the Technical Community Updates having a positive impact and increasing transparency. The ICON Foundation’s Technical Lead, Eric Solomon, will be hosting an Ask-Me-Anything (AMA) in the ICON Discord on August 11 to discuss the future of community contribution. The time slot for the AMA is currently being finalized, so stay tuned for more details!
